Bran has learned his abilities throughout his life from other gifted people, so he knows he can affect the past and try to warn people or at least start preparing for the future. That however is redundant because near the end of Bran's first life, the white walkers destroy the world. However I think Bran's first life was vastly different in Westeros than what is going on now. My theory is that Bran is the three eyed raven (a common theory). There is no paradox because there is a beginning point from which all other events occur. In the movie, we start several time travels deep from the first time he did it. Denzel realizes he can time travel and then begins his time traveling journey. The first point of contact with the machine is after the bomb happens and Denzel is just investigating a normal case.
